Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

At Sunway Malls, we believe in playing our part to build a more equitable and resilient world for the community and generations to come through practicing and advocating for the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (UNSDGs).

Sunway Malls’ Together For Good campaign, launched in 2022, focuses on championing eight of the SDGs through six of our initiatives; Green Lease, Sustainable Operations, Waste Management, Green Procurement, Community Building and Urban Farming.

At Sunway Putra Mall we’ve been committed to supporting sustainability through these efforts such as Autsome, Kloth Cares, Book Donation Drive and more.

OUR INITIATIVES

AUTISM INITIATIVES

Sunway Putra Mall aims to support & create more awareness on Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In our effort to support the autism community and their families, we aim to provide them with an inclusive and comfortable shopping experience, simultaneously increasing public’s understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder by adding mall facilities and through partnerships with various NGOs.

KLOTH CARES

Don’t dump your old clothes, RECYCLE them! Together with Kloth Cares, we step up our recycling game by providing a Recycle Corner at Basement 1, Car Park for you to drop your unwanted apparels and fabrics. Kloth Cares is a social entrepreneurship movement aims to keep fabrics out of landfills.

This initiative is in line with Sunway’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) No.11, to move towards Sustainable Cities and Communities.

As of April 2024, we’ve collected over 65,000kg of cloth and material since 2019! Be a part of a simple movement that changes lives today.

BOOK DONATION DRIVE AND READING CORNER

Tired of your old books cluttering up your space? Donate them at our Book Donation Drive at Basement 1 (near Pillar H13) or swap them at the Recycle Corner at Level 4 (Edutainment Hub). We welcome gently-used books of all genres!

Your donated books will find new homes at The Salvation Army's thrift store, where proceeds will be used to support local projects in Malaysia.

The drive started in Nov 2023 and as of April 2024, we’ve collected a total of 6,169kg of books! Be a part of a simple movement that changes lives today.

UPCYCLED ART INSTALLATIONS

We believe in creating new life from waste materials by turning it into art. Waste materials such as discarded materials, props and structures from past events are upcycled and repurposed to create installations in Sunway Putra Mall as part of efforts to reduce waste.

Amidst the chaos of textile excess, a passionate team saw not waste, but potential. They embarked on a journey to rescue forgotten fabric scraps, each thread telling a story of its own. In collaboration with Kloth Cares, these once-unwanted fabrics were lovingly transformed into a masterpiece titled Gadis Ku. This piece of art aims to raise awareness by embracing sustainable practices and advocating for change. We can stitch together a more sustainable future for our planet and the generations to come.

SOLAR ENERGY GENERATION

In our commitment to SDG 7, 11 and 13, Sunway Putra Mall installed solar panels to harness clean and renewable energy to power selected operating systems. We made this investment to sustainably increase our use of clean energy and to responsibly reduce our carbon and greenhouse gas emissions.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES (EV) CHARGING STATIONS

Charge up your EV at Sunway Putra Mall Basement 2, making it even more convenient for you to power up while you shop, dine, or enjoy your time here.

GREEN LEASE PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME

Sunway’s Green Lease Partnership Programme invites all tenants to implement international practices of operating sustainability. The Green Lease encourages fair cooperation and shared responsibility between all parties (landlords, tenants and investors) as we share the same dream in achieving sustainability goals for the greater good. Through the Green Lease agreement, we responsibly manage energy and water usage.

Sunway Putra Mall is proud to share that 83% of our tenants have pledged to be a part of our Green Lease Partnership Programme, leading towards cleaner operations and business in the long term.

GREEN PROCUREMENT

Sunway Malls practices Green Procurement which ensures that we consider the cost of products and services alongside the environmental and social impact throughout its entire lifecycle. We advocate for using eco-friendly products and services, as well as the protection of human rights in everything that we do as leading retail organisation to preserve natural resources, protect our workers, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Retailers Championing the SDGs

Over 30 retailers are committed to NO plastics straws and NO plastic bags!

Tenants have also collectively recycled over 12,000KG of scrap metal, 207,000KG of cardboard/boxes and 7000KG of water bottles/plastics for recycling! (recorded since 2019)
